Pohtiolampi Osprey Center

Pohtiolampi Osprey Center, maintained by the Finnish Osprey Foundation and located in Kangasala, Finland, welcomes you to observe ospreys’ impressive preying of salmon trouts. The ospreys can be observed from a public bird-watching tower open to all visitors. The watchtower holds 25 people and is also accessible for wheelchair users. Up in the tower, you have the opportunity to photograph the preying taking place at the ospreys’ fish catching pool just some 40 meters away.

For amateur and professional photographers, there are six rentable bird hides located around the fish pool. The bird hides allow you to take close-up shots of the ospreys’ splashes and dives into the water, and also spot the grey herons, goosanders and various other animals residing in the fish pool area.

Osprey Center opening hours in 2010:

April 2^nd - June 4^th:
    On Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays at 11:00 - 16:00
June 5^th - August 29^th:
    Every day at 11:00 - 19:00
August 30^th - September 12^th:
    Every day at 11:00 - 17:00
September 13^rd - October 10^th:
    On Saturrdays and Sundays at 11:00 - 17:00

Osprey Center is closed for wintertime

Osprey Center will be closed from 13^th October 2010 and will be opened again in April 2011.

A versatile traveling place

Pohtiolampi offers you a stimulating environment for holding various kinds of training, business or family-related events.

Our restaurant building has approximately 75 seats.

In addition, in the courtyard of the restaurant lies the oldest public spot for hooking salmon trouts in Finland.

You can try hooking
salmon and, if you
succeed, have it
smoked right on the
spot at your request.


Nearby is also the ancient area of Sarsa whose path network reaches all the way up to Keisarinharju. 

There are various osprey-related products and e.g. bird nests for several bird species for sale in the restaurant and the yard area.
